"there's no way we're gonna give up"
Sep. 3rd, 2008 12:16 amOne of the main complaints about Wikipedia is that it's edited largely by geeks. Some webcomic pointed out that the entry for "Optimus Prime" is longer than that for "George Washington", and GamesRadar had an article I'm too lazy to Google for for more than thirty seconds comparing various word counts.
TV Tropes is the same, except more so.
That's not to say it's useless, oh no. There's gold in them thar geek-culture hills. I've discovered interesting series, like Honor Harrington and Thursday Next. I know that the Dresden Files books were substantially better than the TV series, solely due to the sheer number of pages referencing it. I know there's a good deal of anime series I'll probably never see.
On the other hand, I am now aware of the fact that I need to avoid any explanation, excerpt, or heaven forfend, an actual copy of House of Leaves if I want to sleep ever again.*
*As near as I can tell it's like this page, but worse.
In other news, I've tried Google Chrome. I managed to get through about 3 hours before any serious problem. What I do like is the simplicity of the interface; there's not even a search bar, for frick's sake, and yet it works.
