mcitySince my last post, I've been calculating my chances of surviving an zombie apocalypse.
I live on an island in the Bahamas, New Providence, with a high degree of tourist traffic. Given this, there's a high chance that the infection would hit us and take us down before we knew what happened. All it would take would be one bitten tourist. However, assuming they made it over before dying, turning, and killing everyone on the plane-in which case we'd very likely have zombies coming out of the water-they'd get sick and die here. They'll reanimate either in their hotel, on the street, or on the way to the morgue.
Incidentally, our two main hospitals are smack in the middle of downtown.
After a few cases, I imagine the Government of our little Commonwealth would put the island on lockdown. Several genre-savvy people, like myself, would wonder. The island stays more or less quiet. When the great panic hits, I'm hoping we get some sort of advance notice, giving us enough time to raid the nearest gun store. The store in question, incidentally, is in a mall that sits at the crossroads of two major roads. Assuming we manage to raid the gun store and not get shot by the owners, our best bet might be to sit tight; the mall has plenty of so-called food, and a nice flat roof for helicopter landings. I'm most worried about those big glass doors and windows we can't secure, though the guys in the 2004 Dawn of the Dead seemed fine with them. We hang around until we either die or get rescued.
Or we get the ammo and guns from the store and head for the ocean. Problem is, the primary dock is also downtown. Our best chance is heading south to the ocean and hoping we can find a boat. If we don't, we die. In fact, there's a very good chance we'll die anyway. Even if we do get away, just every other island or landmass we could make would likely be overrun. In fact, we'd probably get a few dozen cases from people evacuating South Florida and the Keys.
So, assuming we made it to the sea and got away, only one member of my family is a trained seaman, and we have nowhere to go. The family islands might hold out for a while, but they largely rely on NP for their food. Unless the Zacks are quashed very quickly and we're found by some chopper or Defense Force Boat, I'm doomed.
