My sister--and to a lesser extent Mum--has been raggin' on me all week during our trip to Miami about how impatient I am when it comes to games and tech, including one rather frustrating scene when they thought I was looking for missing packages, when in fact I was plugging my DS in to be charged*.

Today she may have managed to break our new laptop before we even had it six hours.**

She also seems to be desperately trying to avoid admitting we're going to have to take it in for servicing in less than a week, despite my job being, y'know, a guy who works in an electronics store. Problem with telling Mum and Dad is that she's going to get yelled at. Part of me thinks she deserves it for being...rather rude all week. That part also gleefully points out that every time she tries to mock me for being impatient around tech, ever, for the rest of her life, I have a perfect, $500+ response.

The greater part of me says that other part's kind of a dick.

I have a problem with guilt. Random things can start bringing up memories of stuff I did when I was a kid, and I still wince over them. My corresponding good memories largely consist of webcomics, which says far more about me than I like. If MJ's anything like me, every time she sees or hears about the new computer, for years on end, she'll think about how she screwed it up.

And maybe that'll be enough to keep her from making another mistake like this one.

*My partial response, and I quote, was "What is wrong with you people?!"
**She decided to boot it up on the plane. Vista has a startup bit that involves entering personal info, then waiting for the system to initialize. She turned off the computer right after the first bit, but before the warning on the second bit pops up that goes "FOR THE LOVE OF BILL, DON'T TURN OFF THIS COMPUTER UNTIL SETUP IS DONE." The reason I didn't stop her, despite sitting next to her on the plane, was severe sleep deprivation from this morning when the cousin whose house we were staying at and who I was sharing a room with decided to watch the Brendan Frasier Journey to the Center of the Earth at three frakkin AM in the frakkin morning and I wussied out on asking him to turn it off because it was his house and his DirecTV. Also because I didn't know she was about to do it. Guess what refuses to boot past the "mouse cursor and pale blue background on the screen" stage now, even in Safe Mode?
