New vocabulary word; "heterosexism"

I've mentioned before that there seems to be a lot of emphasis on words; on defining what's going on rather than trying to understand it(no, they're not the same thing). Problem arises when it's difficult to discuss these subjects with someone without terms no one ever uses in regular conversation pops up. When was the last time someone mentioned "rape culture" chatting with their co-workers at the water cooler about the latest Axe ad?
*It's sociologically interesting that being a minority is okay, but being abnormal is not. Both technically meaning something similar, but practically very different.
Heterosexism is a term that applies to a system of negative attitudes, bias, and discrimination in favor of opposite-sex sexuality and relationships.[1] It can include the presumption that everyone is heterosexual or that opposite-sex attractions and relationships are the only norm[2] and therefore superior.Basically, it's "heteronormative"*, except it comes out and says what the latter only passive-aggressively implies. The next most extreme is "homophobia".
