There was a girl I knew. I had known her since third grade, and even through high school she remained perfectly naive of everything in the world. She only spoke to two girls, and was otherwise absolutely silent. Even when a teacher would call on her, it took her five extra seconds to compose herself enough to respond in her quiet little voice, until most teachers just eventually stopped calling on her. Talking to her felt almost like bullying her, since she would often back away, avoid eye contact, and reply in a shaky voice.
