Dear person on DA;

There is no good reason to upload your photos as PNGs.

They are 12 MB, for crying out loud, when a comparable JPG would probably be less than one. There is no good reason to waste everyone's bandwidth like that.

Srsly,
Jon

Careful, you'll get me started on digital cameras taking pictures at 100% JPEG quality, instead of 60%, which looks the same but takes up a fraction of disk space.

.tiff objects held in .pub files FTW!

There was a post from someone on LJ's tech support workers community a few years back about how people lower the res on their digital cameras and come crying to IT when they looked like crap. These days, cameras have such high res that you can easily put them at half-quality and no one will ever know. Who needs 14 MP for pictures they're just going to post on Facebook, really? I once colored a piece of art using a photo of the sketch I took with my dad's old 2 MP Fuji, and it turned out to be one of my best pieces (http://u63r.deviantart.com/art/midnight-snack-26848879?).
